Zarina Kiziloglu (Running for MCC President)

In my first week at MCC East Bay as a BOD member, I brought in the idea of having an agenda and keeping minutes in BOD meetings.  Alhamdulillah, we have come so far that now we have the minutes published in the Newsletter and the meetings are open to the public.  I have noticed that the MCC President can do a lot to empower the BOD members by doing the following. (1) In order to have a fully functioning BOD, the directors need to have a certain level of knowledge of and training for a nonprofit organization.  I would highly encourage and support that because it would benefit the community tremendously. (2) I would lead by participative leadership, “shura”. (3) In order for MCC to sustain the growth that it has experienced; it has to have functioning, inclusive and diverse Committees and Members.  During my first year at BOD, I continuously encouraged the directors to establish committees in accordance with MCC Bylaws: Alhamdulillah we now have the following functional committees; Youth, Finance, AV/website and few others.

Alhamdulillah, some of the programs which I established/led and am particularly proud of are:

  • Syrian Refugee Committee
  • MCC membership drive
  • Youth basketball teams and games at HUB925.

Additionally, I am a member of Assemblywoman Catherine Baker’s Interfaith Committee.  I have successfully worked in affordable housing and homelessness issues in our community and was recently appointed to the City of Pleasanton Housing Commission. I live in Pleasanton.

Ummul Sabeen (Running for MCC President)

I have been a member of MCC for more than seven years, a Board member for the past two years, and I am in my fourteenth year as a Tri-Valley community member. I live in Dublin with my husband and our four children. I received a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Applications. I have served as the Parent-Teacher Organization President & an Parent-Teacher Organization Treasurer twice at Northstar School. I have deep appreciation for improving the quality of life for our community. Youth and children are the future of our community and my personal interests are in continuing to ensure youth programs grow and mature to meet the changing needs of our youth, however, I am aware that all aspects of our community need attention. I will be honored to be the President of the next Board of Directors, if elected.

Nawaz Ali (Running for MCC Secretary)

I live in San Ramon with my wife and children. I have lived in the SF Bay Area since I was two years old, when my parents brought me here from Pakistan.

My background in engineering, sales and marketing has taught me how to solve problems collaboratively and how to get along with different people. I am a friendly and open person. I enjoy getting to know people, teaching and helping people. If I don’t know the answer, I probably know someone who does, and I am great at connecting people.

If you support me as a member of the board, I would like to focus on the following:

  • Promoting MCC East Bay
  • Helping with youth activities
  • Working together to stop discrimination in the media
  • Promoting respect and open-mindedness interfaith
  • Building community awareness that our mosque is open to anyone who wants to come-in: Muslim or not

Mujahed Ali Mohammed (Running for MCC Secretary)

MCC is very beloved to me. I have been involved with MCC since pretty much Day One when we started the private fundraising for the new location. Even when I was living in Fremont at the time, I would come to MCC for Jumu’ah Prayers and Taraweeh.

In terms of my personal and professional background, I’m married with three beautiful kids who go to Northstar School. I’m a Solution Architect at CloudSense Inc. I have a computer science engineering degree and I have been in IT my whole professional life.

We have recently moved to Dublin into “official” MCC community (Tri-Valley area) so I would like an opportunity to serve the Masjid and the MCC community. I’m currently also a teacher in MCC Sunday School. I teach Qur’an to a bunch of amazing 5th graders. I really enjoy the opportunity that Allah ﷻ gave me to teach Qur’an. To me, this is the opportunity to gather provision for the Hereafter. I hope and pray that Allah ﷻ guides me to serve the Masjid and the community in the way that pleases Him ﷻ, Amin!

Danyaal Abbasi (Running Unopposed – Director-At-Large position)

I live in Livermore, work in enterprise sales and have a business on the side. I have been serving the Board for two years now. Being the youngest and having grown up here in the East Bay, I bring a very unique mind set to the Board which allows for a well needed perspective. At the same time I am the Board’s connection to the youth and the youth’s mindset. In the past two years, I have been so involved that not only do I have a solid understanding of how we came to where we are today as MCC, but also a deep understanding in where we are headed. I hope to play a dedicated role as a Board Member to make MCC a very well rounded center, which because a means for the youth to connect with lslam.
